Algebra Problem- Confused by Equations

by AndreaV424 » Thu Jul 16, 2009 6:15 pm
Can someone please help with the below problem? The correct answer is E; please clarify as well. I might not be reading is correctly.

If E is correct, then that must mean that -4t = 32t = 8. I'm confused ??

Thank you!!

Mary is reviewing her algebra quiz. She has determined that one of her solutions is incorrect. Which one is it?

A. 2x + 5 (x-1) = 9 x = 2
B. p - 3(p-5) = 10 p = 2.5
C. 4 y + 3 y = 28 y = 4
D. 5 w + 6 w – 3w = 64 w = 8
E. t – 2t – 3t = 32 t = 8

Work out the answer choices by doing simple algebra and see which one's incorrect:

A.) 7x-5=9--> 7x=14--> x=2 No.

B.)p-3p+15=10--> -2p=-5--> p=2.5 No

C.) 7y=28--> y=4 No.

D.) 8w=64--> w=8 No.

E.) -4t=32--> t=-8. The question says that t=8, so this is our answer.
