There are over 110 million dogs and cats in the United States, which is more than the population of any Western European country.

(A) which is more than the population of any Western European country.
(B) which are more than the population of any Western European country.
(C) being more than the population of any Western European country.
(D) more than any Western European country in population.
(E) more than in any Western European country by population.

OA is A. But I have no idea how A is the correct choice. Can you explain your answers plz.

A isn't really a great answer, but it is the BEST of the options, which makes it the correct answer. I mean, I just feel like "more than" sounds... unprofessional, almost.

Does that really make it a bad question? I ran into a lot of SC questions in my GMATPrep software that I felt that way about. I don't find it to be flawed test-writing. I also ran into several questions on the English Literature MFAT test that none of the answers were correct, but one was clearly more correct than the rest.

Actually, I feel like this sentence's biggest flaw isn't even addressed: that it is unclear whether "population" refers to the human population of a Western European country or the cat/dog population.
