major film studio

by vikram4689 » Sat Apr 28, 2012 2:21 am
A major film studio announced the release date of a movie based on a novel that, though it was a bestseller when first published, has been out of print for nearly fifteen years. Hoping to capitalize on the anticipated success of the film, the publisher who owns the copyright on the novel plans to print a new edition to be made available the same week the film premieres.

EACH of the following, if true, supports the soundness of the publisher's plan to capitalize on the success of the film EXCEPT

a* The publisher has received permission from the film studio to stamp the words "Now a major motion picture" on the cover of each book.
b* Last year a new edition of a novel that had been out of print hit the bestseller lists two weeks after a movie biography of its author was released.
c* The publisher received two hundred thousand dollars after selling the production rights to the film studio.
d* The actress playing the lead in the film has discussed her love for the novel in nationally televised interviews.
e* Last year a new edition of an unpopular novel was adapted into a top-grossing film, and sales of the book spiked.

Debate is between
C & D
, please provide reason for your answer

My Opinion -
While D adds some odds that book will be popular among public, C does not affect the odds as getting royalty money from film studio to allow making of movie has no effect on the success of sales of book
we are concerned with the publisher's plan. Personal review by lead actress is not concerned with the plan. Its out of scope and hence should be the answer.

C for me.

C doesn't talk anything about the novel. Publishers got $$$ from selling the production rights to the studio. That's it. C doesn't affect the publishers plan in any way.

D says that actress expressed her love for the novel in the national televisions. So there is a positive news about the novel in the national news that might help the sales of the novel.

Now, i am confused too!
In both C and D, we are making assumptions -
C, revenue from production rights does not necessarily mean that the book will be successful too. There is a missing link here.
D, The actress' love for the novel does not necessarily mean the masses will fall for the book.

Expert's opinion please..!

I will go for option A
The publisher has received permission from the film studio to stamp the words "Now a major motion picture" on the cover of each book.
Hence, now people will not buy the book rather watch the movie. so this will harm the pulisher's plan of capitalizing.

correct me if i am wrong.

A--Publicizing the connection to a film that is expected to be successful could entice new buyers.

B--Provides a precedent for rereleasing a former bestseller and finding success.

C--Receiving money for the film rights has no bearing on the success of the rereleased novel.

D--Exposure in national interviews could entice new buyers.

E--Provides a precedent for rereleasing a book to capitalize on the popularity of its film.
