On a certain track and filed team, a sprinter runs 120 meters per minute, which is 4 times as fast as the speed of a distance runner. If the distance runner can run 120 meters twice as fast as a shot-putter, how many meters will the shot-putter on the team run in a minute?

A. 60
B. 30
C. 15
D. 12
E. 10

The OA is C.

Please, can any expert explain this PS question for me?

I know that the sprinter speed is 120 meters per minutes and it is 4 times as fast as the speed of a distance runner, that's mean that the distance runner speed will be 120/4=30 meters per minute.

Also I know that the distance runner is twice as fast as a shot-putter, then the shot-putter speed will be, 30/2 = 15 meters per minute.

It's correct my solution, right? I need your help. Thanks.

Hi swerve.

Your answer is perfectly ok.

Because the sentence a sprinter runs 120 meters per minute, which is 4 times as fast as the speed of a distance runner, implies that the runner distance speed is 120/4 = 30 mts/min.

And the distance runner can run 120 meters (in 4 minutes) twice as fast as a shot-putter, implies that the shot-putter runs 120 meters is 8 minutes, hence its speed is 120/ 2*(4) = 120/8 = 15 mts/min.

This is why the correct answer is the option C.

I hope this answer can help you.

Feel free to ask me again if you have a doubt.

Regards.

Since a sprinter runs 120 meters per minute, and the sprinter is 4 times as fast as a distance runner, the distance runner runs 120/4 = 30 meters per minute. Since the distance runner is twice as fast as a shot-putter, the shot-putter runs 30/2 = 15 meters per minute.
