I got that #1 was insufficient, but I plugged in x = 0.5 and x = -2 for #2, and they both worked with #2, because when x = 0.5, 32 > 8, and when x = -2, -1/32 > -1/8, so I checked "E", both insufficient.

I read the explanation, but I didn't quite understand what the "E" looking symbol meant.

Help highly appreciated from the quant whizzes, thanks!!

you forgot to reverse the sign for reciprocals in inequality
x^5<x^3 is possible if x<-1 and -1<x<1 i.e. negative less than -1 and decimal within (-1;1)

the sign "E" implies "belongs to the set"

Thanks for the help. No wonder I keep scoring below 80th percentile on quant on the GMAT.
