A piece of limestone

A piece of limestone discovered in sedimentary deposits near Gubbio, Italy, in 1979 provided the first evidence that the extinction of dinosaurs has possibly been caused by a meteorite impacting.

A. that the extinction of dinosaurs has possibly been caused by a meteorite impacting
B. that the extinction of dinosaurs may have been caused by a meteorite impact
C. of the extinction of dinosaurs being caused by the impact of a meteorite
D. of how possible it is that the extinction of dinosaurs could have been caused by a meterorite impact

What do u think is the problem with "is probably" in choice E. My reason to eliminate is the construction "the cause of the extinction of the dinosaurs".

Word is probably means that the extinction recently happened but the extinction occurred well in the past.
