why an MBA ???

by devilsamus » Fri Aug 27, 2010 11:02 am
I am a director in my family business of offset printing in India. Our group is valued at USD 300 million and employs close to 800 people. We have a diversified presence in publishing, offset printing and notebook manufacturing.
As part of the ongoing diversification plan of the groups' activities, my objective after MBA is to diversify our group into box packaging industry.

I was researching about MBA and b-schools and am confused as to why should I do an MBA ?

One reason (what I can think of) is that I want to tap the FMCG industry, and b-schools which have good placement records with FMCG companies will give me ample networking opportunities with people who will eventually be placed in this sector and will help me grow my business.

Secondly, b-school will help me improve my management and leadership skills ( I dont know how they do it.. )

Can anyone please suggest, How can an MBA help me and which b-schools I should be targeting ? (I am comfortable with both US and European B-schools)

my brief profile is,

Undergrad- 51% in Bachelors of commerce from Delhi University, India.
GMAT- 660 Q-46 V-35 ( retaking it and aiming for 700+)
work-ex - 6yrs in family business ( managing close to 400 employees)(I oversee company direction including development and implementation of company goals, policies, manufacturing planning )

Have traveled extensively to Europe (attended various industry related fairs in Germany and UK) also started my own real estate investment company in UK.
I am also a member of a charitable organization in India where close to 150 people are treated everyday.

planning to apply in R2 this year.

For this I want to do an MBA from schools which have an increase

one more thing

In one way or another your goal of going to back to business school is related to your desire to be more like Vince Vaughn's character from Old School: either you want to go back to school to live the good old college life again, or you want to build your own business empire to rival Speaker City (he was worth 3 and a half million dollars that the government knows about, after all...).

I want to attend B-school to live the college life as I started working in my family business while pursuing full time under-graduate degree and could not enjoy university life during those days.

I dont know whether I can write this in my essays or not.
