Hello All,

So I took the GMAT this Saturday and scored an embarassing 460. I need something around 580 - 600 to get into the school of my choice. I've been reading similar topics all day and am trying to figure out the best plan of attack to get the score I need. I have been studying pretty diligently the last month and a half or so (Using Cambridge and OG), took a couple of practice exams (both with similar results, 1st - 440 & 2nd - 450) and then drop a 460 on Saturday. Obviously I haven't been doing something right.

My scores:
Quant: 13 or 19th Percentile
Verbal: 23 or 43rd Percentile

The deadline to get in grad school for the fall semester is July 1st, so I have right around 1.5 to 2 months to get my score up 100 -140 points. I having been a hard time with the math while doing my prep work, but was hoping to make up for math by doing well on verbal. Of course that didn't happen.

So I've been reviewing the topics of people who have had similar scores and it seems like the best self study material seems to be the Manhattan Set.

My question is this, assuming I have 1.5 to 2 months to take my exam, will I be able to cover the required material in the Manhattan study set? I could study for 2-3 hours a day and 4-6 hours or more on the weekends. I know you can tell me if this will work, but if I commit myself, SHOULD this be enough time to get a score of about 600? Would it be worth it to order the entire The Manhattan GMAT Complete Prep Set or should I just focus on Complete GMAT Quantitative Set?

I figure I'll try to do self study one more time before taking a course like Manhattan or Princeton Review.

Thanks for your help,
P

Hi there,

I just completed the 5 Manhattan GMAT math self study books. I kept an hours log and it took me about 120 hours of focused study to do this. The books are very good and teach lots of techniques for approaching problems and speed tips. If you can get through the material and practice problems, and feel comfortable with it I think a 600 should be within your grasp. Good luck
