Hi Experts ,

Please explain option
B & C
Many thanks in advance.

Hi,
In both the options B and C, the VERB is missing..
B is perfect buit for the missing VERB 'is'..
B) The banana, which contains high levels of potassium and other important minerals, IS considered

C is again missing on VERB ans is incomplete sentence..
C) Potassium and other important minerals that are present at high levels in the banana, making it
The bold portion modifies the Potassium and minerals, but then there is no VERB..

Hi ,

Thanks for your reply.

Just a quick question if this options misses a main verb, then CONSIDERED refers to what here?

Please advise.

Thanks,

SJ

"Considered" can typically function in one of two ways. 1) as a transitive simple past tense verb. For example: Dave considered the argument.

or 2) as a participle/adjective. For example, Considered an excellent source of potassium, bananas are nutritious. Note that I can also write, Bananas are considered an excellent source of potassium. In each sentence "considered" is a participle modifying "bananas," and the main verb is "are."

If I remove the "are" from the previous example, watch what happens: Bananas considered an excellent source of potassium. There are two ways to interpret this, both problematic. First, like Chetan, we might simply say that the sentence is missing the main verb "are" - without a main verb, we have a sentence fragment. Second, we might say that "considered" is a transitive verb, in which case the bananas are thinking entities, meditating on the nature of a source of potassium. In this case, we'd have an illogical complete sentence. So whether the error is grammatical or logical, the sentence is clearly flawed.

Hi,
CONSIDERED is a past participle, they are VERBALS, verbs that are not used as verbs...
Also considered is at times wrongly used as an IDIOM with as or to be...
example considered as OR considered to be.. both are wrong---
