Word Problem

by Xeb » Tue Oct 04, 2011 9:57 am
This should be a very simple word problem:

The employees of XYZ Enterprises received wage
increases ranging from 30 cents to 87 1/2 cents per
hour. What was the minimum wage increase for a
40-hour week?

(A) $12.00
(B) $23.00
(C) $34.80
(D) $35.00
(E) $35.20

The given answer is D. Can someone please explain? I chose A straight away. Because the question asks for the minimum wage increase for a 40-hour week. Actually, I wondered that it cannot be that simple. Where is the flaw in that question?
Thanks.

I believe this is a GMAT paper test and there is a typo in the problem.

The maximum is $35 and the min is $12. I read it somewhere

Thanks shankar.ashwin, that's what I suspected. Does this happen a lot in the GMAT paper tests?
