If x and y are non-zero integers and |x| + |y| = 32, what is xy?

(1) -4x – 12y = 0

(2) |x| – |y| = 16

Lets have discussions first

IMO ans is A.

given |x| + |y| = 32
and from 1 we have x=-3y
putting we get
|-3y| + |y| = 32
|y|=8
x=-24 if y=8 or x=24 if y=-8
In both cases xy=24*(-8) or (-24)*8
Hence suff.

From 2 we have |x|-|y| = 16
solving we get
|x| = 24, |y| = 8
x,y can be both negative and positive so for both xy will change.
Hence insuff.

But i want to know if the values of x and y can be negative for these two equations as taken by me for statement 2, or in other words if the OA is D
What if i have not yet beat the beast, I know i will beat it!!!!!!!!
