If x,y,z are respectively in the ratio 3:2:1 and x + y + z = 1 then the ratio of (1 – x) to (1 – y) is
(a) 1:2
(b) 2:3
(c) 3:4
(d) 3:5
(e) 4:5

Is the answer C?

I approached it the following way:

3 + 2 + 1 = 6 = (3+2+1)

x + y + z = 1

6*(1/6) = 1

so (1/6)*3 = 1/2 = x

(1/6)*2 = 1/3 = y

(1-x) = 1/2; (1-y) = 2/3

(1/2) / (2/3) = 3/4

Let me know if I missed anything?

y=2z x=3z

6z=1=>z=1/6 therefore x=1/2 and y=1/3

1 - 1/2 / 1 - 1/3 = 3:4

C
