Following is the question from 800 score Manhattan test:

Susan: The President claims to understand the problems faced by the poor. I don't think he can make such a claim. The President came from a wealthy family and has never had to work for a living or suffer the problems of poverty.

Paul: Your reasoning is flawed. After all, you yourself come from a comfortably middle-class family and have never been poor either.

Which of the following possible responses by Susan would most directly address Paul's criticism?

A. I am not the President, so understanding and solving the problems faced by the poor is not my responsibility.
B. I may have been middle-class, but I was raised in a post-industrial city with a large proportion of poor people, and I saw how they suffered.
C. I never claimed to understand the problems faced by the poor, but the President has made such a claim.
D. It is true that I have never been poor, but I have never been as wealthy as the President is, either.
E. My family was a poor immigrant family as few as fifty years ago. All they have, they earned through their own hard work.

Confused between A and C. Although if I personalise this argument I would go for C. But not sure why A is wrong. OA is
(C)
.
Any experts help would be much appreciated.

Thanks and Regards
Prashant

Madonna says she understands GMAT the best

Susan : how can she understand, she has never been exposed to GMAT in her education career

Paul : X your reasoning is flawed since you too have no exp of GMAT

X"s rebuttal : yes u are true, but I am not making a claim that I understand GMAT contrary to what madonna is claiming.

Leading to C

option A : Susan says = i am not Madonna & solving GMAT probs (Quant & verbal) is not my responsibility= Eliminated

A. I am not the President, so understanding and solving the problems faced by the poor is not my responsibility. --- The question is not solving of the But understanding them.
B. I may have been middle-class, but I was raised in a post-industrial city with a large proportion of poor people, and I saw how they suffered. --- out of context since background of Susan is never being discusses here.
C. I never claimed to understand the problems faced by the poor, but the President has made such a claim. -- this is the best rebuttal. Please understand that If anything Susan is agreeing that she also does not understand the problems of the poor but she is saying that so doesn't the president.
D. It is true that I have never been poor, but I have never been as wealthy as the President is, either. --- totally out of context
E. My family was a poor immigrant family as few as fifty years ago. All they have, they earned through their own hard work. -- again totally out of context

Hence, C!

Yep, the problem with Paul's response is that Susan does not claim to understand the problems. She can criticize the president for having done so without asserting her own knowledge of the issue.
