Obesity often leads to health problems, such as heart attacks, Type II diabetes, strokes, and cancer. A person who is considered clinically obese has a three-times- greater chance of heart trouble. Obesity is also responsible for as many as 90,000 cancer deaths per year. The earlier a person becomes obese, the greater the health problems and risk of death. By the year 2010, it is redicted that half the children in North and South America will be clinically obese compared to about one-third of children in 2000.

The above premises most logically lead to which of the following conclusions?

(A) Children will become more and more
obese in the coming years.

(B) Children in North and South America
are more obese than children in Europe
or Asia.

(C) Obesity that begins in childhood poses
a greater risk of health problems and
death than does obesity that begins in
adulthood.

(D) Today's children may be the first gener-
ation in centuries to have a shorter
average life span than their parents.

this is an overgenaralized statement the passages quoates North and South America as an example ..elimntaed

My stake for C too.

First rule out those options that are unrelated B,D,and E have no topic of discussion related to it . Also, they cannot be the reason for the conclusion.

Left are A and C, A says that more and more children will be obese in future(we are tempted to go for this option by reading the last line "By the year 2010, it is redicted that half the children in North and South America will be clinically obese compared to about one-third of children in 2000."

But we don't know what exactly the population was in 2000 and 2010. This condition is possible only when the population in 2000 is equal or less than the population in 2010. We simply cannot assume here.

Rules out A

C- correctly makes an conclusion from the line "The earlier a person becomes obese, the greater the health problems and risk of death. "

Hence C makes it.

Incorrect : Issue is not about HOW obese (30 lbs obese or 40 lbs obese or 50 kgs obese). Eliminated

(B) Children in North and South America are more obese than children in Europe or Asia.
Incorrect : Comparison between obese children of America/Asia/Europe is irrelevant to the scope of the argument.

(C) Obesity that begins in childhood poses a greater risk of health problems and death than does obesity that begins in
adulthood.
Correct : It is stated in the premise that 'the earlier a person becomes obese, the greater the health problems and risk of death' and this answer choice logically follows the premise.

Incorrect : Blah Blah Blahhhh generation out of scope !!!!

Just searched in some other posts and found the OA given is D.

There are many disagreements to it. I don't know how it is D.

In fact, D says about the generation in the centuries(we are talking here about two years 2000 and 2010)

Another thing "may be " is used as a possibility, so it may not be true.

We need a concrete and definite conclusion, that is only C
