Are at least 10% of the people in Country X who are 65yrs old or older employed?

1. In Country X, 11.3% of the population is 65 yrs old or older
2. In Country X, of the of the population is 65 yrs old or older, 20% of the men and 10% of the women are employed.

(1) There is no information of the people employed. So, (1) is NOT SUFFICIENT.

(2) 20% of the men + 10% of women are employed. Although the number of men and women are not known, but the employment should be greater than 10%. So, (2) is SUFFICIENT.

Hi rkhicha,

This is a weighted average GMATPrep question. We want to know whether at least 10% of older ppl are employed. Statement 1 gives us no employment data. Statement 2 tells us that 10% of older women and 20% of older men are employed. The % of the entire older population that is employed will be a weighted avg of the older men and the older women. Thus the % of the entire older population that is employed will be somewhere between 10% and 20%. It is guaranteed that at least 10% of this population is employed. Statement 2 is sufficient and B is the correct answer.
