A foot race will be held on Saturday. How many different arrangements of medal winners are possible?
1) Medals will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

2) There are 10 runners in the race

---Please use spoiler in future. I've now edited your post---

I doubt whether this qn is from an authentic source with the way the question is designed.

How many different arrangements of medal winners are possible?
You need 2 info here: 1. Total runners, and 2. Total medal winners.

You get info for 1st from 2nd statement. You get info for 2nd from 1st statement.
Hence, combined statements give the answer to the question.
