Struggeling with OG 12 CR #78

Hi everyone,

I am really confused with the critical reasoning question #78 in the Official Guide 12. I can seem to get the hang of the connection between assumption (answer) and conclusion. I don't see why THIS particular assumption is necessary... please help, I feel like exploding.
