Math Question

by viv09 » Thu Oct 06, 2011 7:29 pm
If B<1 and 2x-b = 0, which of the following must be true?

a) x > -1
b) x < -2
c) x = 2
d) x < 3
e) x > 3

If I modify the question stem I get b < 1 and x = b/2.

How do I go about solving this further? I want to know the approach to use for such questions.

Thanks a ton!

Any help will be appreciated.

imo B. 2x-b=0 => 2x=b, hence 2x<1 as far as b<1, x<0,5
only B supports this inequality.

2x = b and b<1

So, x<1/2

From the choices only D has the same condition. If x<1/2, then surely x<3 also.
Hence D IMO
