Joseph had to type an article containing 10,000 words. How many minutes did it take him, if he types at a constant rate?

(1) He typed 4,325 words in 3/2 hours.
(2) Joseph typed the entire article before noon.

The OA is A.

Please, can anyone assist me with this DS question? I don't have it clear. Thanks in advance!

We have to find out how many minutes did Joseph take to type the article containing 10,000 words.

Let's take each statement one by one.

(1) He typed 4,325 words in 3/2 hours.

He typed 4,325 words in 3/2 hours, thus, he would take [(3/2)/4325]*10000 hours. Sufficient.

(2) Joseph typed the entire article before noon.

We do not know when did he start typing and when did he finish. Insufficient.

The correct answer: A

Hope this helps!

(1) He typed 4,325 words in 3/2 hours.
(2) Joseph typed the entire article before noon.
Statement One Alone:

He typed 4,325 words in 3/2 hours.

With this information, we can calculate his rate and thus calculate the time it takes him to type 10,000 words. Without actually calculating his rate or the time, we can conclude that statement one alone is sufficient.

Statement Two Alone:

Joseph typed the entire article before noon.

This does not allow us to determine the time it takes him to type 10,000 words. Statement two alone is not sufficient.
