Question about GMATPrep Tests

by CiscoA » Wed Dec 30, 2009 10:30 am
I understand that once you register for the GMAT you'll be given the software to practice 2 full GMAT tests.

What I would like to know is, can I take each section separately? Math separate from Verbal

Can I print out the test results? - I'd like to print out the ones I got wrong on the test to see where I made my mistake and correct them and learn from them.

In other words, I'd like to take "test 1 math" or "test 1 verbal" once, then do the same "test" over and over, for my timing and variety of problems I could encounter.

Then when the time gets closer to my test date, I'd like to keep one full test Math and Verbal (test 2) for a 'final exam' and see how I fare.

TIA

Well, you can go through the math section or the verbal section of a test and just tick A, for instance. You'll get a bad score for the section you go through quickly and your regular score for the section you spend more time on.

Anyway, a piece of advice: the two GMATprep tests are very valuable, since they're the closest you'll find compared to the real test. This is why it's best to keep them in order to FULLY simulate your testing experience, to see how you fare under official conditions. Mock tests are good especially to evaluate your current level and to improve stamina, but they're not so good for practice. This is because in each section you'll see one or two questions from each topic (i.e. 1-2 for geometry, 2-3 for inequalities), which does not help you build your knowledge of the subject or target a specific topic.

See the thing is, I've done all the PS problems for OG12, and I want to take a timed math section for practice. Then print out the questions I got wrong and find out what I'm missing or what I did to get it wrong as well as my timing. Then after I've gone over my mistakes retake the same math test, I have heard there will be some repeated questions, very few, and go from there. Same would be for the verbal section.

I do want to save one full test for a final exam.

Is that possible with the GMATprep software?

I suppose you can use GMATprep #1 for this timed math/verbal section and retake it for your second reevaluation. You could also use other tests out there - almost all prep companies have a free one. Keep GMATprep #2 for the simulation of your real thing though!

I have the MGMAT ones available when I picked up the SC book, so I have those available too, I just want to use the closest GMAT caliber problems I can for math.
