Instead of X, subject Y - This is the right structure

A - Instead of buying stocks and bonds, which are the conventional approach for someone new to financial planning, real estate has become increasingly the choice of young people as a first investment. Who buys stocks and bonds ? Modifier issue and passive.
B - have shown a choice for - too wordy - VAN pattern
C - Same as A, the choice of young people is modifying buying - Modifier error
E - have shown an increasing choice of - too wordy - VAN pattern

Moreover investments in D seem better compared to approach

IMO D.
Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.

SO D modifies it correctly. hence,it is the answer.

I too made a blunder with SVA.
I know that what you wrote is correct.
So can I say that a Complement needs to be in agreement(in numbers) with its subject.
I always have problems with SVA.

From the perspective of SVA, how is D different from A, B and C.

buying stocks and bonds, which are the conventional investments for those new to financial planning, young people have increasingly chosen real estate.

For me OA should be E.

Instead of X (noun), modifier, Young people have shown Y (a noun phrase).

Experts please help.

Any phrase/ clause treated as a subject must be considered singular. Therefore, here BUYING STOCKS AND BOND collectively is a singular.
