Understanding GMAT Focus

by vomhorizon » Fri Jul 19, 2013 10:15 pm
Hi,

I just got finished taking the 3 GMAT Focus tests, as i am winding down my Quant portion for my scheduled GMAT on the 14th of August. I am quite confused about the analysis the tests are giving me.

In my first test, i got 10 incorrect questions, and the analysis gave me a score of 45-50 with 80 % probability. In my second test, i got only 4 incorrect questions (out of 24) and the analysis was 47-51 with 80% probability...In my third test i got 5 questions wrong and my analysis was 44-50 with 80% probability.

I understand that your performance depends upon the degree of difficulty of the questions, but i kept answering most questions correctly so the test should have given me tougher and tougher questions. In my third test i had a string of 9 correct answers, one of 6 correct, and finished with 3 correct answers...Never having more than two incorrect answers in a row. ( 1 - 1-1 -2 split) ..Why is it that my third score (which should have been very similar to the second one) is even wider ranged then my first score? The only reason i can think of is that the computer/test/bank , ran out of really tough questions after the second test...but is that usually the case with most people who have tested with gmatfocus?

I do not have many CAT's left and have taken official one's multiple times over the last few months...so was really counting on gmat focus to give me a decent analysis.

Background: I scored Q43 in my first GMAT which hurt because i had been getting 45-47 on my mocks...I am now aiming for a Q47 or better this time around, took a GMAT PREP CAT after 3-4 months of having taken it last time and scored a Q49...

Thanks for the reply. It is rather frustrating, having bought the set of 3 gmat focus tests for the purpose of evaluation and analysis when i pretty much ended up doing neither...Its a rather poor product in my opinion, and GMAC would have been better off, in providing 3 GMAT PREP like Quant specific CAT"s which actually give you a score at the end of the day, rather then a range so vague.
