Maths Qs from GMAT Prep - Need help

by monusangeeta » Wed Jun 09, 2010 8:10 pm
Dear All,

I have couple of maths questions from GmatPrep that I am unable to solve. Request your help to suggest me solution and approach for the same.

Data Structure:
Q1: A certain list consists of several diff integers. Is the product of all the integers in the list is +ve.
1. The product of greatest and smallest of the integers in the list is +ve.
2. There is an even no. Of integers in the list.
Answer: Both together are sufficient, alone not.

According to me: The answer should be None of them are sufficient (E)

Q2: Store S sole a total of 90 copies of a certain book during the seven days of last week, and it sold different number of copies on any of two of the days. If for the seven days store S sold the greatest number of copies on Saturday and the second greatest number of the copies on Friday, did store S sell more than 11 copies on Friday?
1. Last week store S sold 8 copies of the book on Thursday.
2. Last week store S sold 38 copies of the book on Saturday.

Answer: statement 2 alone is sufficient but 1 is not.

According to me: Both are required, each alone is not sufficient.

Problem Solving
Q1: In a certain group of 10 members, 4 members teach only French, and the rest teach only spain or german. If the group is to choose a 3-member committee, which must have at least 1 french member, how many different committees can be chosen.
Ans: 100

According to me: To solve this problem answer should be: 4x9x8 = 288

Q2: At the end of the year, a certain credit card company pays a bonus of each of its credit card holders based on the amount, up to 10,00$, that a cardholder charged throughout the year. A 0.5% bonus is paid on the first 1000$ charged, a 1% bonus is paid on the next 2000$ charged and so on. What is the maximum annual bonus, in $?
Ans: 150$

According to me: The answer should be 200$; maximum annual bonus could be calculated on maximum amount i.e. 10,000$. hence 10,000X2% = 200$

Please suggest!!

Thanks
Sangeeta
