Reapplication Advice

by consulted » Mon Apr 22, 2013 1:00 pm
Hi,

I am a re- applicant from India. Can you please help me with the following -
1) I am considering to take an online course and build alternative transcript for applications next year. Here are my academic stats -
My GPA - 7.8/10 (NIT, Top 10 engineering school in India)
GMAT - 740 (51Q + 38V) AWA - 6.0

a. Considering the academic stats, does it makes sense to take extension classes?
b. If yes, what course should I take considering that I have been lucky to get a good Quant score in GMAT and have done math-intensive engineering course?

2. I am confused with the reapplication essay. How do you demonstrate that I have significantly done better from the last year I applied in 6-7 months (I applied to many schools in Round 2 and planning to apply in Round 1 this year). In what areas can I demonstrate that I am a better candidate this time around?

Regards,
Consulted

Hi consulted,

Thanks for your post.

If you graduated in the First Class then with your strong GMAT score I do not see a lot of value in taking an online class. I suggest you use that time to improve in other areas of your candidacy instead.

f you did not graduate in the First Class, then I suggest taking a course such as Economics or Finance and getting an "A" to demonstrate your commitment to education.

Regarding your reapplication essay, the schools will be looking for progress across your candidacy - this could be in a variety of areas such as increased responsibilities at work, additional extracurricular activities, starting a new group at work outside of your formal role (such as organizing a volunteer day for your team).

Our Clear Admit Reapplicant Guide provides a thorough discussion of this topic. I suggest considering purchasing it: https://www.clearadmit.com/ca-products/r ... ant-guide/.

Good luck!

Best,
Heidi
