The GMAT Beat Me, Please Help :)

by Sgnillens » Mon Oct 24, 2011 4:39 pm
Hello All,

I took the GMAT this past weekend and I did not do well (well below 600). It was my first attempt with the real exam; however, I studied for 3 months using Manhattan GMAT materials. The week before the exam, I took the practice exams from MBA.com and scored a 680 and 690 without finishing each section on time (need to work on my timing!!!). During the real exam and as soon as quant started, I completely blanked and had test anxiety for the first time in my life. My thoughts were scattered and I was defeated 5 questions into the exam. I got off to a bad start and it was all downhill from there...

I couldn't wait to get out of the exam because I knew I did awful! Not the right attitude to have, but it is what it is!

Back to the drawing board! I'm taking the exam in a month, but I am not sure how to study. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I am in the exact same boat as you! Just took the GMAT after 3 months of self-study with multiple practice test scores all averaging around 640-670 and the real score was below 600 :( I'm not beating myself up over it right now, because I'm glad I know what areas I really need to improve. I'm pretty sure that I'm capable of scoring higher, so I'd like to retake it. But this time around, I think I'll take a class or get a tutor, as that may be more helpful to me than trying to study on my own again. Having someone explain and reinforce math concepts might be a better way to up my score. Perhaps that's something you want to look into?
