Hi! I'm a new employee of one of the big four companies and I do want to make MBA or MS Finance master three years after. I'll take Gmat 2 months later and I assume my point will be around 700-710. My GPA is 2,97/4. Undergraduate field: Economics

Have I got chance to take grant(scholarships) from top 25 universities in USA or top 5 in UK for MBA or MS Finance with 3 years work experience + 700-710 Gmat score + 2,97/4 undergraduate degree if not could you give advice the best choice for me?

Dear perfectstranger,

Are you wanting a full tuition scholarship or just some scholarship funds? MBA programs have limited scholarship funds and many follow the philosophy of giving small scholarships to more students than awarding a few students large scholarships. Additionally, many schools in the top 25 do not give any full tuition scholarships.

If getting a scholarship is most important to you, then you should probably consider schools ranked in the 40-100 range as they tend to offer larger awards. Likewise, they also reward high GMAT scores and strong work experience more than the top 25. I would encourage you to really think about what you want from your MBA experience and prioritize those items. Then you can use that list to identify programs that are the best match for you.

The above in quotes is your advice to someone who posted on this blog. Based on this, i'd like to ask you if you will be able to help me identify schools that are ranked within 40-100 and be able to pinpoint programs - where i can apply and have the greatest likelihood of securing a large scholarship award. While i know there are no guarantees in this - can you help in identifying/selecting the program that will offer me the highest amount of funds?

Dear sagha28,

It is impossible to predict where you will get in and even harder to predict where you might receive an award. You need to be applying to schools that are the best match for you in terms of your career goals and school culture. The more attractive you are to the school, meaning the stronger your profile is relative to the average, the more likely it is you will be considered for any scholarship awards whose criteria you match. The sticky on school selection on this forum has some great tips on identifying programs that are a good match for you. From there, you can narrow down your list to schools where your profile is significantly above average as potential targets.
