80pie square inches of material of negligible thickness are required to construct a 1/16 scale model of a cylindrical barrel. If the diameter of the base of the barrel is 160 inches, then what is the volume of the barrel, to the nearest cubic foot?

2pie,11pie,178pie,711 pie,1280 pie

Please explain what does it mean by:
construct a 1/16 scale model of a cylindrical barrel.

Is the correct answer 178pie

Solution

As to construct 1/16 of the cylinder barrel we require 80pie sq inch of material.

So for actual cylinder
Surface Area of cylinder = 80X16X16Xpie sq inch of material
Radius of the cylinder is given as 80 inch.

solving we can find height as 48 inch.

As the volume is required in foot
r= 80 inch = 20/3 ft
h= 48 inch = 4 ft.

Volume = pie x r x r x h = 178 pie

May be its very simple but I dont get the meaning of this particular sentence.
1/16th of what? and what do we mean by scale model?
