According to anthropologists, the use of human language covers a wide spectrum from
practical communication between people engaged in the same task to establishing hierarchy
within a social group.
"¢ practical communication between people engaged in the same task to establishing hierarchy
"¢ communicating practically between people engaging in the same task to the establishment of
hierarchy
"¢ practical communication between people engaged in the same task to the establishing of
hierarchy
"¢ communicating practically between people engaging in the same task to hierarchy established
"¢ practical communication between people engaged in the same task to the establishment of
hierarchy

Hi,

I think your are stuck between C and E.

option C - paralles action noun - communication and complex gerund - the establishing of hierarchy .
This is not wrong but gmat prefers parallels of two action nouns over parallel between a complex gerund and action noun.

Option E - parallel two action nouns - communication and establishment

Hope it helps

I think killerdrummer gave out one too many hints there !

IMO E.

ManhattanGMAT says - In any list of action nouns, always choose the choose the complex gerund phrase (often with articles and the word Of) over the simple gerund phrase.

And to answer killerdrummer's question - No, you cannot compare nouns to gerunds.
