by datonman » Thu Sep 17, 2015 10:54 am
This problem is rather tricky.

Janet opened a full 32 ounce container of juice and poured 14 ounces into her glass. Karen drank two-thirds of what Janet left in the container. How many ounces of juice were still in the container after Karen drank her juice?

A. 4
B. 6
C. 10
D. 12
E. 18

Start with 32 ounces

Janet opened a full 32 ounce container of juice and poured 14 ounces into her glass
32 - 14 = 18
So, there are 18 ounces of juice REMAINING in the container.

Karen drank two-thirds of what Janet left in the container.
2/3 of 18 = 12
So, Karen drank 12 ounces from the container.

How many ounces of juice were still in the container after Karen drank her juice?
18 - 12 = 6 ounces

Or we can do this...

Start with 32 ounces

Janet opened a full 32 ounce container of juice and poured 14 ounces into her glass
32 - 14 = 18
So, there are 18 ounces of juice REMAINING in the container.

Karen drank two-thirds of what Janet left in the container.
In other words, Karen LEFT 1/3 of the juice in the container.
1/3 of 18 = 6

So, 6 ounces of juice REMAINED in the container.

Hi datonman,

Have you taken any FULL-LENGTH CATs yet? How have you been performing overall (and what were your Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?
