IMO A
A: average of first ten positive integers is 5.
1: If x < 5, it means x is definitely less than 16. Sufficient
2: x can be 16, 25, 36 etc. Not sufficient

Good catch. If a set of numbers are evenly spaced then the median=average.

A:

The average of the first 10 numbers is 5.5...

(1 + 10) + (2 + 9) + (3 + 8) + (4 + 7) + (5 + 6) = 11 + 11 + 11 + 11 + 11 = 55,

so 55/10 = 5.5. If x < 5.5, x < 16 for sure.

Just because x is a perfect square, we can't say that x < 16. So we are done.
