Before Race R, Peter's best time in swimming was 21 minutes. Did Peter beat this time in Race R ?

(1) Peter took between 0.3 and 0.4 hours to swim 1,500 meters in Race R.
(2) Peter took between 1,200 and 1,300 seconds to swim 1,500 meters in Race R.

Hi in this question i picked up Op E as my answer. My reasoning was, we don't know that the previous record was made in a race of 1500 meters only. Means peter's last race (before race R) was of how many meters. Is this reasoning correct??????

I think Kaplan people didn't think so as they also have the Op E as an answer but they actually solved the question considering that both races covers the same distance. I believe this is illogical to assume such thing????please share your views???

Hi,
Yes. You are correct. We cannot assume such things. Anyway, answer E is what matters even though Kaplan's explanation overlooks this issue.
Cheers!

I think it is fair to assume that it was a typo and that Kaplan intended to state that the race was 1500m in the question as well.

Without that the question is way too easy and not a worthwhile GMAT question.
