Statement 1: x+y=3
We must try with the minimum possible and the maximum possible values of x and y.
The minimum possible of x = 1, thus y = 2. Thus, x and y are consecutive. Yes.
The maximum possible of x = 2 (it cannot be 3 as that will make y = 0), thus y = 1. Thus, x and y are consecutive. Yes. Sufficient.
Statement 2: x-y=1
x-y=1 itself defies that x and y are consecutive if each of them is positive. It basically states that the difference of two positive integers is 1, thus, they are consecutive. Sufficient.
