Both X and Y must serve to connect PARALLEL FORMS.

A: both IN and ALSO
C: both IN and PRACTICE
D: both THEORY and IN
In these options, the forms connected by both...and are not parallel.
Eliminate A, C and D.

In E, both...as well as is unidiomatic.
The correct idiom is both x AND y.
Eliminate E.

The correct answer is B.
