If each photocopy of a manuscript costs 4 cents per page, what is the cost, in cents, to reproduce x copies of an x-page manuscript?
(A) 4x
(B) 16x
(C) x2
(D) 4x2
(E) 16x2

Here is my shot:

x pages with x copies @ 4 cents per copy= x*x*4 or 4x2

The answer is D, but I tried to do a more logical approach.

If I needed 10 copies of a 10 page paper at 4 cents a page, that means I need 100 pages. 100 pages times 4 cents is equal to 400 cents total.

I plugged these values in all the formulas and didn't get it. Not sure why?
