What is the x-intercept of the line with the equation 2y = 8x-14?

A. -14
B. -7
C. -7/2
D. 7/4
E. 7/2

The OA is D.

To get the correct answer to this PS question we should substitute y = 0 in the line's equation and solve for x, thus

2(0) = 8x-14
8x = 14
x = 14/8 = 7/4.

Let's substitute 0 for y to determine the x-intercept.

2(0) = 8x - 14

14 = 8x

x = 14/8 = 7/4

Hi All,

We're given the equation 2Y = 8X - 14. We're asked for the X-intercept of that equation. For most Test Takers, solving this Algebraically would be the most straight-forward way to get to the correct answer. The answer choices are written in such a way that you can estimate the solution without too much difficulty.

The X-intercept is the point at which the graph crosses the X-axis (re: where Y = 0). With this equation, we're looking for the point at which 8X - 14 = 0. Since (8)(2) = 16 is just a little bigger than the "-14" that we're looking to offset, the actual value of X has to be a little LESS than 2. There's only one answer that fits that deduction.

Final Answer: D

Equation of line: 2y = 8x - 14.
The x-intercept of a line/curve is referred to as the value of 'x' when the line or curve passes through the 'x - axis', in other words, when 'y = 0'.
putting y = 0 into the equation,
2 (0) = 8x - 14
0 = 8x - 14
=> 8x = 14
$$=>\ x\ =\ \frac{14}{8}\ or\ \frac{7}{2}\
Option\ E\ is\ the\ correct\ answer$$
