Given: n is an integer between 3 and 9

Target question: What is the value of n?

Statement 1: On the number line, the distance from 3 to n is 2/3 of the distance from 3 to 9
Since n is BETWEEN 3 and 9, the distance from 3 to n = n - 3
The distance from 3 to 9 is 6, so 2/3 of the distance from 3 to 9 = (2/3)(6) = 4

From statement 1, we can write: n - 3 = 4
Solve, to get n = 7
Since we can answer the target question with certainty, statement 1 is SUFFICIENT

Statement 2: On the number line, n is 10 units to the right of -3.
Moving 10 units to the RIGHT of -3, is the same as ADDING 10 to -3
In other words, n = -3 + 10
So, n = 7
Since we can answer the target question with certainty, statement 2 is SUFFICIENT

Answer: D

Let's take each statement one by one.

1. On the number line, the distance from 3 to n is 2/3 of the distance from 3 to 9.

=> |3 - n| = 2/3 of (9 - 3) = 2/3 of 6 = 4
=> |3 - n| = 4
Either 3 - n = 4 => n = - 1 or 3 - n = -4 => n = 7.

Since n is an integer between 3 and 9, the value of n = 7. Sufficient.

2. On the number line, n is 10 units to the right of -3.

Since n is 10 units to the right side of -3, it's value would be greater than -3, thus, n = -3 + 10 = 7. Sufficient.

The correct answer: D

Hope this helps!
