Ok E is the answer.

To show y C is wrong, lets plug it in

Although Napoleon's army entered Russia with far more supplies than they had for any previous campaign, it had provisions for only twenty-four days.

One bold part referes to the army as plural while the second bold part(which is not underlined) refers to the army as singular. That not correct !

IMO (E)

Army is singular, but in (C) army is referred by they which is wrong.

adding to my friend's reachac's comment, i would say that army when performing an action as a single unit is singular such as in this case.. but if we need to consider units of army, we will need to consider it plural..
take for eg.,: the army are divided in their opinion..

i hope it helps! coorect me if i went wrong anywhere
