Answer with explanations please. OA after a few reply.

wow....this one is a bit tricky
IMO B

more as a substitute for x than (as a substitute for) y
more as a substitute for four quarters than (as a substitute for) the dollar bill

x weighs far lighter than Y
it weighs only 8.1 grams, far lighter than four quarters

One more vote for B

A: "More.....rather than" is incorrect."Less" Non-count noun - so,incorrect
C: "More than" construction awkward - changes the meaning.Uses "less"
D,E: Wordy & Awkward construction

OA from GMATprep is C.

This was actually the second question on my verbal section and I chose
B as well, only to find out later that it was wrong.

The sentence emphasizes on the fact that the new dollar coin will be
used as a substitute for 4 quarters than the dollar coin. So, only C, D and
E remain. Of the 3, D and E use improper constructions.

B changes the meaning of the sentence by saying that Sacagawea dollar coin will be used as a dollar bill.
The intended meaning is the preference as a substitute. B fits the bill.

HI every one this is my first post!
My vote is for C.
The final choice for obvious reasons narrows down to B & C.
B cant be the answer because "lighter" cant be used to compare the weight of two bodies.

For ex. X's weight is lighter than Y's is not correct.
rather, X is lighther than Y.

So the correct answer is C.
