Suggestions to begin with RC

Hello everyone,

I would like to start with the RC segment of verbal content in GMAT.

Could anyone suggest on how to begin with this as I am really bad at this.

My first negative point about it is, I am a non-patient reader. Moreover, I am very bad at relating different passages given in an RC.

I will be very helpful to people who can help me overcome the RC part.

1) You can read the first question before the passage.
2) Draw the scope and road map for each passage
3) write down you own conclusion.

Can you guys also help me with what weightage RC has in GMAT. As far as I understand, its about 3-4 passsages with 14-15 questions during the verbal section. A

GMAT can be categorized into 3 sections in the order of attempt :-

1] AWA (AOI + AOA)
2] Quantitative [37 question in 75 mins]
3] Verbal [41 question in 75 mins]

Now verbal has SC , CR and RC.

In the verbal section you can expect to face 4 RC passages paired with 3 or 4 questions.It comprises roughly one third of entire section , about 14 out of 41 questions . What makes GMAT verbal a challenge is that its a long duration exam and after solving 37 quant questions less energy is left to concentrate on verbal . If you are a voracious reader it wont be a tough for you but if not with practice accuracy can be achieved .

RC covers 34-37% of questions on verbal section.

Hi,

I have received a PM to reply to this post with updates.

After, starting this thread, I did a lot of research and started reading many newspapers, especially the editorial columns. The reading of editorials gave me patience, perhaps hope, to continue reading the passage even if I don't understand any thing in it. I may sound silly here but his helps for people who are at my level and find RCs difficult.

Though I did not see a huge difference in my RC solving skills but on a positive note I am able to atleast go through the passages and try to understand them.

Coming to my research part,

I found that, there is no particular methodology or set of rules that are applicable for RC section. It solely depends on ones reading skills and the way we extract stuff from it. Thus, what I am currently doing is, referring the passage, RC99's that are posted on this forum, and trying to solve them.

I see sometimes that I fairly answer few passages and sometimes I just screw the answers. I guess this happens with everyone. So, each time I incur this, I hold myself and attempt it again. I suggest people the same too.

Anyways, any more suggestions are welcome.
