If t^3 – t^2 = 2 t and d = t^2/4, then what is the value of d?

(1) t is a positive integer.

(2) t and d are integers.

t^3 – t^2 = 2 t
t(t^2 - t - 2) = 0
t(t - 2)(t + 1) = 0

t =0, t=2, or t = -1.

if t = 0, d = 0
if t = 2, d = 1
if t = -1, d = 1/4

statement 1: t is a positive integer

so t must equal to 2, and d = 1. sufficient.

statement 2: t and d are integers

insufficient, since there are 2 possibilites: t=0 (and d = 0) or t=2 ( d = 1). insufficient.

choose A.
