I am a working professional in a manf. company in India by background & an Automobile engineer by education. I made my mind in Aug'13 to go for MBA as current job is monotones & did not provide new career opportunities, hence i started preparing for GMAT (did self preparation for 3 months)

I wrote GMAT on 19 Nov with sufficient preparation, Quant was always my strength but verbal is more than a weakness (now it become's a nightmare / fear factor for me) & scored only 610, where section wise in Quant hoping to score 50 but scored only 47 (what i realized is that just because i panic in last 25 mins make 2 silly mistakes , & question no 37 - click on correct ans choice but not able to confirm it & time went up for Quant) & in verbal 34-35 but scored only 27(again Panic due to less time time quation was like 22 min left & 16 question with 1RC in front of me).

During preparation phase, i did SWOT analysis after every CAT , But never seen improvement in score.
(GMAT prep 1 : 530, Kaplan Free test : 580, Veritas Free test : 640, & then MGMAT all test from 580 - 600 only, GMAT prep 1 re 620 & finally gmat prep 2 : 640)

I always did analysis of my mistakes which i have done in test, try to cover up never succed in doing so.

Now,I have planned to retake GMAT next year in between Jan'14 end to Feb '14, Hence have only 2 months.Looking back at my SWOT analysis i found verbal an area of improvement .

For quant i target a score not less than 49 (will give 40 % of time to quant this time)

Verbal is core area where i need improvement (1 thing i want to add - When i started my preparation i was very weak in SC score 6-7 correct out of 15 but during my final days i was able to attempt 10-11 question correctly, however i did find that in CR i made no considerable improvemt)

I would like to know, how i must proceed to do well in next attempt .

Ps >> My job demands 10-12 workings hrs a day with 300 working day in a year i.e. 6 day working a week & required lot of energy each day.

Regards

Hi Racklesshivam,

Your practice CAT scores and your Official GMAT are all in the same general range: 580 - 640 (I'm ignoring your 1st CAT), so you've managed to put yourself into an "above average" position doing things "your way."

What materials have you been using to study? Did you enroll in a Course or have you been self-studying with books?

While you're obviously busy with work, you might find some adjustments to WHEN you study to be helpful. Most people study more effectively in the early part of the day (as opposed to studying at night); since your time is limited, you might consider studying before you go to work - this might also require you to adjust your sleep schedule a bit.

Since you're Quant score is strong, you might want to take a look at Advanced Quant from MGMAT -- it might help you squeeze out some extra points on tougher questions.

For Verbal, I'm also curious what materials you've been working on -- if Verbal is stagnant then it's often because we just spend most of our study-time answering new questions and doing only a cursory review of the ones we get incorrect.

I'd focus on taking your strategies for Verbal to the next-level -- getting a bit more precise and methodical about HOW you tackle specific questions. Here's a board I've put together for RC strategy so you can see a little bit of what I'm referring to: https://learni.st/users/60/boards/41432- ... nd-for-all

hi viven,

Initially, i used MGMAT SC + aristotle grail SC for Sentence correction.
For CR used Powerscore + MGMAT CR ::: From MGMAT CR --> I did not developed any basic, however i find Powerscore helpful.

Besides this i have gone through OG-13 Verbal (complete) + Verbal review 2nd edition.

I am revising all concepts these days, & trying to track down error which i am making.

plz share with me some insight or good idea which i can utilize to make my dream come true

regards
