After arduous months of fighting, the sight of the white flag being raised generated as much relief on the victor's side than it did on the vanquished.

A. as much relief on the victor's side than it did on the vanquished.
B. as much relief among the victors as among the vanquished.
C. as much relief on the victor's side as it did on the vanquished's.
D. relief both on the victor's side as well as on the vanquished's.
E. relief both for the victor and the vanquished side.

B is the Best.

A is incorrect due to idiom. as much... than is unidiomatic.
C- vanquished's -- is incorrect.
D- both.. as well as - is unidiomatic
E- both for... and the vanquished is not parallel.

The original sentence conveys, victor's side is much more relieved than the other side.

Please correct me if am wrong!

Yes the reason is because you are forgetting the most important fact- Incorrect grammar is the biggest mistake. Even if you see a change in meaning...but grammatically the sentence is correct.. you have to stick with it.
correct meaning with incorrect grammar will be ALWAYS incorrect.

Hi, thanks a ton for the immediate responses :)
We use "changes the meaning" strategy to eliminate choices! Then how does that work?

i understand ... but not on the cost of a grammatically incorrect sentence. :-)

OK. So, if the given sentence is grammatically incorrect, we must not use the "Change in meaning" strategy for eliminating the choices!

Yes absolutely... remember you are doing sentence correction. not meaning detection. A grammatically sentence will obviously have a different meaning than the rest...

Takeway-

Make sure that the sentence you choose are grammatically correct to make it a contender for meaning.
meaning is important but not everything because a grammatically incorrect sentence will always give you a different meaning. ensure that the sentence is not wordy or too short. Both are incorrect on GMAT. you need to keep relevant words in the sentence to ensure correct meaning.
