if you have two answer choices that are correct, select the one that is more direct and concise.

"Because they have.." is more direct and less wordy and hence the correct answer

"As a result of" is awkward and generally avoided in gmat. "Because they have" is much more straightforward and concise. Remember the gmat prefers brevity. If you dont find anything wrong with a sentence choose the one which is more concise.
