Many Lithuanian words preserve important features of Proto-indoeuropean, the language from which it is descended, and scholars compare it to the corresponding word in other indoeuropean languages in order to reconstruct the original Proto-indoeuropean form.

a. it is descended, and scholars compare it to the corresponding word in other indoeuropean languages
b. it descends, and scholars compare it to the corresponding words in another indoeuropean language
c. they are descended, and scholars compare them with the corresponding words in other indoeuropean languages
d. they descend, and scholars compare them to the corresponding word in another indoeuropean language
e. there is descent, and scholars compare them with corresponding words in other indoeuropean languages

I'm a little confused about the correctness of the OA. I'll let everyone try it out first.
Please explain your reasons.

It is C.
Our main subject is 'words' (i.e. Lithuanian words) which is plural. So 'they' is correct. Cross out A,B,E. We are left with C and D. Finally, C has correct parallel structure- ' scholars compare them(plural) with the corresponding words(plural).

Force and mind are opposites; morality ends where a gun begins.

C it is.

Note that A and B have pronoun agreement error. Singular it does not agree with plural words.

D has multiple issues -
1. compare to is incorrect in this context. compare with is apt.
Check out the following link for further details on this - https://gmat-grammar.blocked/2006/0 ... -with.html
2. compare them to the corresponding word in another indoeuropean language - This would mean that all such Lithuanian words are compared with the same word in one other language. This is nonsensical.

In E, the language from which there is descent does not make much sense.

C is right.
