Need advice and strategy

by TruthRoarsOn » Thu Aug 29, 2013 12:06 pm
So I plan on taking the GMAT in about 5-6 weeks and have been studying for the GMAT for about 2 months now. I've been scoring around mid 600's (44-46 Q and 30-35 Verbal), aiming for a 700. I have been working on my weaknesses on verbal, starting with SC. I pretty much did all the SC questions on the OG 13 and 2nd Verbal Review. Any advice on what I should do next for more practice. I was thinking about doing the questions a second time or purchasing the GMAT question pack. I also have been watching Thursdays with Ron videos to improve on SC. I've been doing a little bit off the Veritas question bank but I'm not too sure if those questions will appear again on the Veritas practice tests. I took a online course with Veritas, so I have been using their resources. Thank You!

Hi TruthRoarsOn,

If you're looking for more print materials, then you might consider using the OG Quant and Verbal Subject-specific books. Each has about 300 additional questions that you can use to practice your skills. As an aside, doing lots of questions out of books is NOT test-like, so you might consider investing in computer-based materials instead of print materials.

Ok, I have the OG 2nd Verbal Review so I think I'll purchase the GMAT Question Pack. Thanks Rich!

Dear TruthRoarsOn,
I'll also add my two cents. :-)

Here's a 1 month study schedule for the GMAT:
https://magoosh.com/gmat/2012/1-month-gm ... -schedule/
Since you have a little more than 1 month, you could borrow material from this 3-month study schedule, designed specifically for folks with verbal weakness:
https://magoosh.com/gmat/2012/3-month-gm ... l-focused/

Here's a free idiom e-book you may find helpful:

Here's recommended reading.

If you want to improve in Verbal, I highly recommend some serious reading, over and above any GMAT-specific practice you are already doing.

Here's a set of practice RC questions:

a set of practice CR questions:
https://magoosh.com/gmat/2013/more-gmat- ... questions/
a collection of practice SC questions:
https://magoosh.com/gmat/2013/gmat-sente ... questions/

Most of the verbal articles on that blog have practice questions, and the articles are full of advice that can help you on the test.

Finally, a blog of about book recommendations:

I hope all this helps!
