141. As the price of gasoline rises, which makes substituting alcohol distilled from cereal grain attractive, the prices of bread and livestock feed are sure to increase.
(A) which makes substituting alcohol distilled from cereal grain attractive
(B) which makes substituting the distillation of alcohol from cereal grain attractive
(C) which makes distilling alcohol from cereal grain an attractive substitute
(D) making an attractive substitution of alcohol distilled from cereal grain
(E) making alcohol distilled from cereal grain an attractive substitute

I believe it is since, 'As the price' is in present continous tense and hence 'which makes' does not match tense wise. the word should be 'making'. E is a better option due to redundancy.

Please explain
A, B, C use which....it is wrong...since there is no immediate preceding noun to which can refer.

D= awkward. IMO idiom is substitute X for Y...and not substitute...from....

Which cannot modify the clause, which has a verb and a subject. This kills the options A, B, and C.
"Making X a substitute" is the correct idiom.

We don't say, "making a substitute from X"

This kills D.
Answer is E.

You can rule out the options starting with which because it modifies rises ???? you need to modify the "rising of prices" because that's what is making the alcohol extracted from cereal grain attractive ...

D doesn't make sense

E - the rise of gasoline prices -> making alcohol distilled from cereal grain an attractive substitute
