IMO -

A: between.....with - wrong
B: among should only be used for more than 3 items...hence wrong here
D: a war which is ranging is wordy....a war ranging is more appropraite
E: same as D
C: to tackle is parallel with to become....and correct use of the idiom between....and also it rectifies the error of D. so IMO should be C.

Agree with bharti06. IMO C.

Usage of between is right in C D E. D E uses which - becomes wordy. A uses among for comparing two things.
Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.

I think it is E...

I think that C change the meaning - IS TO BECOME shows the obligation to become.

gmatblood, why don't you post the OA?
