Two out of five households

This fall two out of five households in the United States will harvest some of their own food from a vegetable garden in backyards and city lots.

(A) their own food from a vegetable garden in backyards and city lots
(B) its own food from a vegetable garden in backyards and city lots
(C) their own food from vegetable gardens in a backyard or a city lot
(D) their own food from vegetable gardens in backyards or city lots
(E) its own food from a vegetable garden in a backyard or a city lot

OA to follow. Pls explain your answers

IMO E

Since it says households, so eliminate answers with 'their' i.e A,C,D
Between B and E its E because each household will harvest is 'a' backyard or city lot. here instead of and, or will be used because it mentions a garden

Need "their" and in C. "a backyard or a lot" is incorrect.

Definitely D and household is plural because the original sentence reads "2 out of 5". Had it read 1 out of 5, then household would be singular

Changes meaning to make it look as if there is only one vegetable garden or one backyard and one city lot that people will pick out depending on where "a" is in front of the noun.
