Top 10 Candidate - Profile Evaluation

by dcanon81 » Tue Sep 14, 2010 6:50 am
Hey,

I am beginning the application process and would really appreciate any insights into my viability as a candidate.

GMAT: 680 (45Q, 39V, 6.0 AWA)
Work Experience: 6 years - including 4 years of private equity in US/China, and a current senior position working for a Chinese firm in the US
Education: 3.4 GPA at Top 50 School, BA in Economics
Languages: Spanish (advanced), Chinese (upper-intermediate)
Extracurricular: Chinese studies
Recommendations: 1 from prev. boss at PE firm, 1 from partner in tech start-up - both strong

Application round: 2
Targeted Schools: Wharton, Columbia, Tuck, Kellogg, Booth, Haas
Reach: Harvard or Stanford
Safety: Darden

I recently took the GMAT for the first time and was surprised by my low score - especially considering that I had been scoring very high on the verbal in all of my practice tests. But, I am starting a new job and don't think I have the time to work, prepare the applications, and retake the test. I would retake it only if it really limited me in my school admissions.

Thanks for your evaluations!!
