This Friday, I want to go out with a friend and grab a few drinks. I don't know anything about drinking and its effects but I do want a top performance on Monday. Does having a few drinks (not getting drunk - only slightly buzzed is the goal) - ok prior to game day? Or would you abstain?

Drinking three days before game day - ok?

I haven't had a drink since I began studying for the exam, and won't allow myself to have one until I take it. It has helped me remain motivated to study hard to get ready for it.
What do you mean you don't know anything about drinking?!?
How do you get through undergraduate without it?
Go ahead and have a few- you'll learn something that's actually useful.

I used to be a bartender so I can tell you with absolute metaphysical certainty that it takes a normal human body 1 hour to process and eliminate 1 drink i.e. 1 beer, 1 glass of wine, 1 mixed drink, 1 shot.
So if you began to drink at 8pm tonite (friday) you would have to drink 60 drinks (i.e. 60 beers, 60 glasses of wine, 60 cocktails) for you to still feel it on Monday at 8am.
You could probably write a GMAT problem based on this: "How many beers can doclkk drink on Friday if he wants to get 800 on GMAT on Monday?"
Dude, relax... have fun and then CRUSH the GMAT on Monday!!!

I actually had a student drink two beers right before she went to take her GMAT. She said she needed to relax more during the exam. Her score?
....
780.
Insane. Not that I advocate that same approach for everyone, but it worked for her!
Go out and have some fun tonight. Relaxation is a big part of doing well on the test.

Lol, reminds me of the Family Guy episode where Peter could only play the piano well when he was drunkVP_Jim wrote:I actually had a student drink two beers right before she went to take her GMAT. She said she needed to relax more during the exam. Her score?

yeah sure buddy ... go ahead, get drunk, paint the town red, get arrested too if u can ... it'll just motivate u...
just joking ... have a few. my experience is, i get a whole lot intelligent after a few, i can express myself a lot better after 3 vodka+lime's.
just another question for the pro's, since i can think a lot better after a few, should I drink on the day of the exam, does the testing center do sobriety test too or no?
